Government of Rio de Janeiro and construction company promise to deliver Maracanã Stadium within the time

The commitment that the works will be completed within the planned date was due to doubts displayed publicly on Thursday by the general Secretary of FIFA, after making an inspection visit to the Maracanã.

The Government of the Brazilian State of Rio de Janeiro and the responsible construction company by the works of the famous Maracanã Stadium ensured that the reform of the Temple of Brazilian soccer, which will be one of the venues of the Confederations Cup which will be held in the month of June, will be delivered next April 27 as planned.

The commitment that the works will be completed within the planned date was due to doubts displayed publicly on Thursday by the general Secretary of FIFA, Jerome Valcke, after making an inspection visit to the Maracanã.

Valcke had stated that the main concern of the entity are not deadlines of the stadiums but the short period for testing, and that each stage has to be tested in at least three events before the competition, the latter of which with its full capacity, to identify potential problems and correct them.

“We know that we don’t have an easy schedule, but the Maracana will be ready for the first test event on April 27,” said the Secretary of the Civil House of the governorate of Rio de Janeiro, Regis Fitchner, who represented Governor Sergio Cabral in the meeting.

“We will make a great event open to the public at Maracanã Stadium as part of the preparation for the Confederations Cup and two closed events. That will ensure all operational aspects after the renovation of the stadium to go through detailed tests,”added the officer cited in a statement reported by the Committee organizing Local (COL) of the Confederations Cup and the Brazil World Cup in 2014.

Maracanã, the largest temple of Brazilian soccer, will be the last of the six stages of the Confederations Cup to be placed at the disposal of FIFA for the events in which the scenarios will be put to the test.

The main test in the stadium must be the friendly match that June two will play Brazil and England selections.

“Our technical team developed a detailed timetable which we have committed ourselves. We will make every effort to fully deliver all the improvements until April 27. We have 6,500 people working every day to achieve that goal,”said for his part the President of the construction company Odebrecht, Benedict B. da Silva Júnior.

The football Confederations Cup will be held between 15 and 30 June in Brazil, as a test prior to the world of the coming year, in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Minas Gerais, Fortaleza, Recife and Salvador.
